Job Description

The Programs Team Member is a key position of the campsite and their work is vital to the on-going ministry of LHYC and the broader ministry of Lutheran Youth of Queensland. It is expected that LHYC’s Programming Team Members would promote, respect, understand and willingly work towards the Vision and Values of the campsite which are drawn from the wider Vision, Mission, Values and Objects of Lutheran Youth of Queensland. Vision

Luther Heights Youth Camp will be known as a safe place where kids can be kids. We will be recognised state-wide as the experts of uplifting and fun camping.

Campers will reflect on their stay at Luther Heights Youth Camp as a highlight of their year. Our campers will escape the pressures of life, experience laughter and discover more about themselves. Luther Heights Youth Camp will be a retreat where people allow themselves to reflect and feel renewed.

Our facilities and service will enhance and complement the camping experience. We will stay ahead of market expectations.

We will present the gospel in such a way that we give every camper the best opportunity to leave Luther Heights Youth Camp closer to God. Experiencing the joy and freedom of the gospel will make campers want to come back.

The ministry we pursue will be socially responsible, environmentally aware and economically viable.

 

We will have a strong team of trained, committed and skilled staff that are recognised and rewarded for their spirited work. They will enjoy their roles and the contribution they make to the camper experience at Luther Heights Youth Camp. Our team will impact campers by acting as role models and inspiration in the roles they fulfill.

PURPOSE 

To further the mission of Lutheran Youth of Queensland by both hands on and strategic leadership of Luther Heights Youth Camp’s Ministry and Programming ensuring that they support and advance LHYC’s vision and mission within the wider mission and operation of Lutheran Youth of Queensland. 

 

KEY OBJECTIVES

  1. The LHYC Programs Team Member is responsible for the delivery of the activities. It is expected that this will involve the following responsibilities;
    1. Implement new programming and ministry ideas in line with the LHYC vision.
  1. Facilitating the undertaking of new fun and exciting programming initiatives.
  2. Actively endorse the LHYC vision: a safe place where kids can be kids.
  3. Be a positive, fun role model to our campers and leaders
  4. To assist with the day to day coordination and delivery of outdoor educational and recreational activities
  5. To share responsibility for all campers in the group ensuring their welfare needs are met at the same time as offering challenge and enjoyment through the activity.
  6. To be proactive in using initiative to ensure the welfare of campers whilst participating in all site activities.
  7. To assess and manage risk in the play and leisure opportunities delivered through a robust and considered approach to risk benefit assessments.           
  8. To ensure that activities are delivered effectively through the implementation of policies and procedures for provision in accordance with best practice, health and safety and safeguarding.
  9. To contribute to the planning and organisation of future activities by providing feedback to the leadership.
  10. Maintain positive professional relationships with the leaders of the group.
  11. Contributes to the spirit within the team or group.
    1. Effectively organises and manages their activity.
    2.  Reflects upon and evaluates programmes.
    3. Operates in accordance with LHYC Standard Operating Procedures. Regularly reflects upon, evaluates and updates Standard Operating Procedures.
    4. Contributes to the administration and logistics requirements of programmes.
    5. Manages and maintains specialised outdoor equipment.
    6. Assists with the management and upkeep of the facility.
    7. Fosters a learning environment that promotes the individual campers motivation and engagement.
    8. Establishes clear rules and expectations.
    9. Utilises effective group management strategies.
    10. Maintains an activity environment that is safe, educationally effective and well organised

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education and Experience
    • Tertiary qualification or demonstrated equivalent life experience capacity in a related discipline (e.g. Teaching, Outdoor Education, Environmental Studies, Youth Ministry).
    • Demonstrated experience in building, leading, developing a team culture.
    • Demonstrated experience in active and engaging ministry.
    • Demonstrated experience in Outdoor Education.
    • Certificate 4 in Outdoor Recreation (Bonus).
  • Driver’s License
    • Must have or be able to obtain a driver’s license

Must secure and maintain an active Blue Card from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian during the period of employment.
