About NLEC

New Life Evangelical Church (NLEC) is a multi-generational migrant church located in Melbourne’s east. Whilst started as a first-generation Cantonese church, NLEC has now grown to 3 congregations – Cantonese, Mandarin and English. The make-up of English congregation is mostly Australian Born Chinese and 2nd generation Chinese migrants.

Position Summary

NLEC-English is looking for a Community Pastor with strong relational capacity and high emotional intelligence. We would like you to have a pastoral care heart and strategic mindset for our church community and local community.

Key Responsibilities

You will be directly accountable to the Lead Pastor of the English congregation to:

· Oversee pastoral care:

o Create guidelines and processes for effective pastoral care.

o Provide pastoral care for members of the congregation.

o Work closely with our Welcome Team to follow up on newcomers and integrate them into our church community.

· Oversee Life Group ministry:

o Lead a regular Life Group.

o Support Life Group leaders where appropriate, such as:

§ caring for their spiritual needs

§ supporting them in planning Life Groups

· Strategic thinking of community engagement:

o Working closely with our Mission Team to develop local mission strategies.

o Supporting our Mission Team to develop global mission strategies.

· Be involved in general ministry responsibilities as a member of the staff team, which may include but not limited to:

o Preaching

o Getting involved in planning and executing special events (eg: prayer and worship nights, Christmas outreach)

o Administrative support (eg: planning for Sunday services, occasional lock up of premises after service)

o Attend team meetings and wider-church meetings (eg: deacons meeting, church AGMs, etc)

Requirements

· Conviction and calling to serve God and the local church.

· A servant-heart, willing to work in a team and under the leadership of the lead pastor.

· Be adaptable and flexible to the culture of the church and dynamics of the team.

· Theological training (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualifications).

· Experience in church context and leadership.

· English fluency, Cantonese and Mandarin language highly desirable.
